Yes, it does need to be stabilized and controlled but my impression here is that the op was asking about long term control. So, my thoughts were that the pup is now stable and they are waiting on test results.

I was responding to that alone...long term control of the liver (hepatic) issue that is causing the encephalopathy. No one can answer that for certain until they have that diagnosis.
