While I understand wanting a puppy, especially a yorkie I really think you should wait for a few years, even for a rescue. Puppies are a 24 hour commitment for the first year at least and even after they, or any dog is very time consuming. A rescue can be even more so. Usually you don't know the circumstances the dog came from and the baggage that he is carrying. At the age of 15 you are just starting your life usually with increased freedom and choices. What happens to the dog if you want to go shopping or to a movie with your friends. Are you strong enough to tell them I have to go home to take care of my dog. I love my little beasties but they consume most of my free time. I know you said your mom would help but is this your dog or hers. What happens if he decides to jump off the couch and breaks a leg. Would she be willing to pay $2000 + for surgery. Can she or you take off school/work to care for him or pay a sitter to stay with him. Learn all you can about yorkies then after you're through with college and settled and have had a chance to have fun without responsibilities get a yorkie. In the meantime you can volunteer with a yorkie rescue to get some practical experience. Working with a rescue I can assure you that we love our volunteers, especially the young ones with all the energy. Check into any local shows and see about volunteering also. It's also a good way to meet breeders so when you are ready to get a yorkie the breeders know who you are. Good luck |
