You guys may should think about getting a Portable Electric Generator.
Even if you have Natural Gas to heat with, having minimal Electric power can really be such a convenience under those "temporary" conditions.
I have a 25 KW, Natural Gas powered, Electric Generator
But, even with one not so powerful (5-10 KW) one can run a few lights, refrigerator, and Fans on the A/C Unit for heating.
Then of course the really important stuff like, charging your Cell Phone, and operating your Computer so you can Post like this
