Irresponsible Breeding Hi everyone, I am new on here and don't have a yorkie. I actually came for advice on someone else.
A relative of mine recently bought a yorkie pup and plans to just randomly breed her. Now I have been fostering and rescuing animals for a long time as well as I am a strong supporter of responsible/ethical breeding. Nothing bugs me more than people who just randomly breed and then try to sell their critters for as much money as possible.
This is precisely why my relative bought this dog. He wants to make money off of her. I know good breeders are not in it for the money (I have rescue pets and pets from breeders but I always choose to support breeders who do it right) but my relative does not get this. He is incredibly young and despite my experience, he refuses to listen about why breeding is not just something one does lightly.
I do not even know that the dog is papered (even then, I know that doesn't mean much if she is) but he plans to breed her to a dog up the street. Not only that, he got the dog for $400 from some lady who 'accidently' let her own yorkie breed to the neighbors yorkie.
Does anyone have any articles on what one needs to do to be a responsible breeder. I doubt the dog will see a vet honestly, nor will any testing or showing be done. I'm sure pups will go off with the highest bidder and be bred themselves.
He won't listen to me at all so I'm hoping reading what others have to say might work.
I apologize if this is in the wrong spot.
Thanks! |
