We put the water bottles in white tube socks and tie the ends. The boys love them!
The little animal covers are cuter, we have a couple of those too, but the socks make a great alternative.
To the OP, if you use something like this, always make sure your pup doesn't chew through to the bottle. Remove the toy if there is any sign of damage.
