You might adopt a rescue Yorkie or pound puppy? It does happen every so often that a good purebred dog gets left by families that move. I just had a great time last week helping a retired lady who had recently adopted a female, 3 yr. old Yorkie from our local SPCA. (A college student left town and left the dog with SPCA.) When I met them, "Daisy" was @ 7 pounds and had just come from the groomer's salon with her new owner. Mrs. R. spotted Taffy in my car's doggie seat when she parked next to me at same time at local TJMAXX Store. So, she showed me her "new girl"--she was very excited! She told her tale of finding Daisy at the local SPCA, etc. Well, after 1 hour of shopping with our two dogs, we had gotten Mrs. R. & Daisy several fine items. (I had Taffy in his doggie carrier..so he is always allowed inside their store.) Plus, I explained to the clerk that we "just had to carry" Daisy to their pet aisle to check on their doggie carrying cases to find one that fit her--so we scooted directly to the pet aisle, and (my favorite aisle) the 'Clearance' aisle. $80.00 later, Mr.R. had a very fine carrying case for Daisy; good dog shampoo & conditioner; a solid food and water dish set; odor & stain spray; a strong, soft, shakey-toy; a good leash; and an adorable grey sweater with pink trim; and a Christmas decorative collar with little bells. (They were out of 'regular collars', so Daisy still had her older original collar.) It was so much fun! Mrs. R. and I swapped numbers to stay in touch. She hopes we can come to her apt. "open house" after she and Daisy get settled in. I noticed Daisy would bark at children, which puzzled my Yorkie. I think she may have been 'teased' by kids, so I told Mrs. R. to let her get used to any neighbor's children with a grown up always there and in a quiet setting. She doesn't quite trust children, though she did not act as if she wanted to bite at all. At any rate, our local shelter director is so thrilled when they save a good dog. So, do check adoption agencies that are legitimate businesses and you to may save a Yorkie! Best Wishes on your puppy hunting! LoL, Sue & Taffy |
