Has his schedule/daily routine changed? That might account for his pooping schedule being off. Sleep time, meal time exercise time -- any change can throw them off.
I know it may seem behavioral, but dogs don't poop if they don't need to go, or if something isn't triggering it, like anxiety or excitement.
Be sure to give him ample opportunity to potty in the right place, and try to maintain a consistent schedule.
