mine was in a cast and it did nothing. I ended up needing the surgery plus bone grafts because we waited due to the vets negligence. She broke the bones just above the paw. I will tell you if you decide to go the cast route you need to crate her and No walking for 5 weeks. I mean NONE. put her in a crate big enough for bed and pee pad and food. Take her out when you can hold her or put her in a secure stroller. Get some meds for when she is frantic from your vet to take the edge off. Its very hard but it passes.
