I don't think the breed really matters. Like humans, dogs have their own personalities. If you're looking to bring in a puppy, I don't think it's too big of a deal as s/he'll grow into your pack. But if you're looking to bring in an adult playmate, then best thing to do is do a meet/greet on neutral ground. Then perhaps another meet at your home as dogs can get territorial when they're in their home.
