This is why I always advise people to go to board certified specialists. The first thing many people think is how much it will cost them. Certainly if surgery is needed, it will be costly; but on the flip side, a specialist is less likely to advise surgery that is not needed. I have walked out of the hospital here quite a few times over the years after being advised that surgery was not needed.
