ZoE is a girl and she marks outside in our yard and when we go for walks. She sniffs (where I think other animals/dogs have been) and then squats & pees on the area. As long as she's doing it outside and consistently goes on her potty pads inside, I don't have a problem with it....it's what dogs do!
I too hope your schnauzer has adequate shelter for the coming winter.
