My dogs mark...it's mainly my older male who was used for stud service for the first 7 years of his life. He lifts his leg outside, but he's also done it in my house. He's peed on my couch and my trash can and even his own dog bed. A few weeks ago I watched him walk over and pee on my bathrobe that was hanging by the door and he did it right in front of me!!
Just recently, his former owner informed my mom that he wore a belly band around her house. I was never told this when I got him...but it would explain why he piddled everywhere. He has gotten better over the years....but he still occasionally has issues. If fact...Last night...someone...and I am fairly certain it was him....decided to pee on my bed!!! GRRR.....
It's funny...I always have other yorkie owners coming up to me asking how I potty trained my dogs. Just a few days ago on Black Friday, I had the boys in Petsmart and another owner came up with her 5 month old female and she asked me how I did it. Apparently her dog will pee, but not poo on a pee pad. I wish I had better advice than "go invest in a carpet cleaner" but that's really the best advice I have for them.
I am not sure my boys will ever grow out of it. Since I've never owned a girl, I can't really say Girls are easier or harder to potty train either. I just know that most people I know personally that have yorkies and small dogs in general, seem to have potty issues. I also know that lots of people have been successful on here with potty training. Maybe certain lines of yorkies are better at it than others....IDK!! But if I had a dollar for every time my dogs used the bathroom in an inappropriate place, I'd be rich!!
On a good note....we had no accidents when I went home to my dad on Thanksgiving!! Its the first time in I can't remember how long!! Just to give you an idea of how bad it is...the boys acutally have homemade washable diapers that I keep at my dads house for when they come visit!! |
