Wow!! So happy there was a happy ending to this story. Thanks for your story and reminding me that things can/do happen in a moment! Our little ones are sooo smart at a LOT of things, but commanding a 'come' doesn't always register with mine. I find this is the case mostly when we're o/s. He gets on a tangent (usually a smell of another dog's scent from urine I figure, but hey, I'm not a dog) and, apparently, I have left this earth as he makes no motion to do as I had commanded. Having said that, other times he will 'make' his way own way back, in his own good time. Silly boy! Some of the time he'll run right past me to say, 'Ya I hear you mom, but I'm not ready yet. Tell you when I am.' In these cases I go up to him and he is on the leash again. Who's the REAL mama here! Most of the time he is my treasure and I know that I would feel terrible if anything happened to him because of my carelessness Needless to say, he is usually in his harness and on his leash.
Here in British Columbia, I certainly scan the skies for hawks and eagles. As I'm sure he looks like a tasty treat from up above, I certainly don't want to envision my baby being carried away!!! That would be terrible. Anyways, so far, so good! Oh, and of course, there are the coyotes and raccoons to be on the look out for. I have a ground floor patio, and I use a strong flashlight when it's dark for Bailey to go o/s and I go first to inspect and then give the go ahead for Bailey to proceed I tell ya, the things we do for them. The way I figure is - surely he should be doing somersaults in air for me by now. haha I'll work on that.
