I need some advice.. I have hand fed my King since I got him at 8 weeks. What I do is take a small piece of chicken breast that has been cooked in water, grab some kibble, then give him only the kibble, while holding the chicken at the same. He will pick up the smell of the chicken while taking his kibble from my finger... That has really helped me with getting him to eat. My question now is how do I get him to eat on his own? As simple as it may seem to do this, it can be a great inconvenience at times, especially if I'm at school. He doesn't eat early in morning, he has no appetite. So he doesn't eat till I get home at noon. That is about 6hrs without eating. I just don't like those 6 hours without eating because lately he's been eating small portions(I think because he is losing baby teeth right now & might be having trouble eating the hard kibble). With that being said if he eats a small portion the night before, doesn't eat in the morning, and then doesn't eat all throughout the morning until noon when I get home... He's real hungry by the time I arrive. I just think that's a long time without eating and I don't like it.
Anyone have any advice on how I can get him to start eating on his own? Anyone ever go through this??
Also as far as the teeth go...I assume he is eating smaller portions because he is having trouble eating his kibble because he is losing baby teeth. Could that make sense? Or are they usually not bothered by the baby teeth coming out? |
