No one says there is no risk with anesthesia, but it is rare if the vet is using up to date protocals which includes one staff member dedicated to monitoring the animal while under.
My vet is extremely strict about having someone to monitor....if the person who is assigned to that needs to leave the room for something there must be someone to take his/her place or he/she not allowed to leave.
