Definitely time for the vet. Shaking and hiding, or even wanting to be held more than usual can be signs of pain.
When my Max's behavior changed dramatically, I discovered he had an eye corneal ulcer.
Signs of dental problems -- reluctance to eat, pawing at the face, and burying the face.
