I suggest a buddy belt harness. I use a collar but only for Callie's tags. I did use a collar for about a month when she was a puppy and a few years later she was diagnosed with mild collapsing trachea it could have been from coming from a bad breeder but I think it was the collar and will always blame myself for not knowing better. We did training classes at petsmart and they were ok with harnesses.
