So sad...but yet such a familiar story. I can't tell you how many times I've seen dogs in less than stellar conditions and when the people are asked about the dogs...it's for their kids, or it's their kids dogs...and they can't get rid of it bc of their kids....YET, they don't really take care of it. The worst is when an Animal Welfare agency comes in and tries to cite a person for neglect/abuse of their dog and they try to wiggle out of the charges by saying it's their underage kids fault, not theirs.
It sounds like she's got the dog outside because it's covered in fleas...when she could have done exactly what you did...call the vet and they could recommend a flea treatment.
I think you did an honorable thing by calling her an giving her a chance to claim and do right by the dog and it was super cool of you to offer to buy the dog from her. If she doesn't listen and just puts the dog back out....I wouldn't be as nice again. If I seen the dog running around loose again, the dog would disappear out of the neighborhood and into a nice home. |
