Which canned Pedigree were you using? I have used it for years and I would not use anything else. Mine get either the chopped chicken, the ground chicken and rice, the Healthy Digestion or the Beef and Chicken puppy food. I just mix an little in with their dry food so they are not getting a lot of it. I don't like the Pedigree canned food that has the chunks with gravy and I don't feed the beef except when feeding pups the canned pedigree beef and chicken puppy food.
