Dark Stools generally mean old digested blood. Bright & Red stools mean more active bleeding. Monitoring gums for paleness as a sign of anemia and belly for bloating. If you see no signs of either you should be home free.

Just a reminder if your dog goes under anesthesia just like humans start a clear liquid diet slowly (by encouraging water intake and enteracal supplements) until the gut "wakes up" (gurgling noises) before reintroducing food.
