I realize that you are concerned, what person wouldn't be. I would seriously do what ever it took to make contact with the owners. But you really must be careful, some people live in those rural areas for a reason and may not take to kindly to a stranger knocking on their door.

Or better yet, maybe contact the police and see if there is anything that they can do. Just be careful if you do.
