Grrrrrrr! You are right to worry about the fate of the puppy with criminals buying it. If the puppy is lucky it may be advertised in a paper and resold to a loving family.
We received a phone call a year ago just past 11:00 p.m.--in fact, all the phones in the house were ringing, cell and land line phones. Of course, we rush to answer the main phone, thinking a relative must be very ill or injured. It turns out the calls were all coming from our Master Card company, who wanted to know if we had made any purchases to add features to our cell phone...their security dept thought it would be strange for us to do that so late at night when most cell phone stores on the East coast were all closed!! Well, we certainly had Not been using our credit card...we were getting ready for bed! So, thanks to a security rep at the M.C. company, they began trying to track the fraudulent charge. But, they had us destroy our current cards, change passwords, and we were sent new cards. They also gave us a code to call in to Equifax or Transunion to let them know we were victims of a security breech. So, these big security companies are monitoring our credit history; they called my house when I signed-up for a new store card to be sure I Was the Person who got the new card..all the house phones were ringing again! Our M.C. Co. said they check on about 400 fraudulent charges per day; Equifax says they check over 3,000 per day for bad credit purchases, false personal info for credit card applications, false name & copied information given for car purchases, etc. The Equifax phone rep said despite what companies and on-line purchasing stores & companies tell you about how "secure" your info is on their site, there is NO such thing as your information being inaccessible!! If you feel uneasy about your personal card info., call & change passwords and/or get new card numbers! You have a right to request it! |
