One side was pasty (but no infection), so only the other side was getting expressed when I expressed her's @ home. Even now when I express it, only 1 side comes out. I need to take her in & get it expressed as soon as she's showing any kind of discomfort. Mimi licks her bum area, that's how I know. I've read that it can be a food allergy issue & for Mimi, fish based kibble makes her anal glands fill up fast.
I don't know how you can avoid this from happening again, but I do know that if you see her scooting or looking back or licking her bum area, you should take her in to the vet asap. Hope she'll feel better soon!

Its funny that you say that about your pup and the fish based food because thats what she was on when this happened. I had switched them over to 4health grain free white fish because of one of my pups itching issues and it is the ONLY fish based food that they liked. So maybe it was the food then? She had only been on it about a month.
Thanks everyone for the help.
