I agree - train your dog the quiet command.

Does your dog nuisance bark?

Personally, my Tatiana never nuisance barks. Whenever she barked, there was a darn good reason (someone comes to the door, doorbell rings, there was a strange sound, etc.). I always tell her,"Good bark." Honestly, I never had to chastise her to be quiet. It was always "good bark."
