An x-pen is a great idea! My boy is a little older than your's, but at 10 month's of age he still get's into EVERYTHING. I use the x-pen for multiple things. Blocking off the kitchen, create an enclosed area beside my side of the bed at night, and also on our balcony to keep him from sticking half his body through the balcony fence, and falling
Oh, and if he is anything like my Chevy, he will get a long with your poodle just fine. Chevy tries to plays with Chihuahuas to Bull Mastiff (Yes, he tried at the vet last week lol) So excited for you!
