seizures I work nights and today finally had a chance to sleep for a little while, been up since friday at 7am. My Izzy came to my face and woke me up. She then had what in a human would have been a grand mal seizure for almost 3 minutes. Luckily my vet is 10 minutes away.I think we made it in 5. She was still drooling and incontinent. We did a full blood panel, checked her glucose and gave her antibiotics and steroids. She's still very sensitive to noises. The phone ringing in the office caused tremors to the point I had to go to another room. One of my main concerns is that one of our rescues started with seizures and when the lab work came back she was in liver failure due to an undiagnosed liver shunt. She was 5 years old, the same age as Izzy. From what I understand liver shunts usually present at an earlier age or does anyone know differently? She did get started on phenobarb and the labs are supposed to be back on tuesday. What makes it worse is that I couldn't get off work and still have had no sleep. Izzy is staying with the friend who had her for the first 4 years of her life and her friend an experienced breeder of 30+ years but I still feel like I need to be with her. Please tell me I'm overreacting. |
