This was the exact fear I had and why I didn't buy the washables. The big squirt pad holder works awesome because it holds the pads down super tight as it has prongs about 1" apart all the way around, with no open spaces like the folding type. It also has 9" sides that go on 3 sides, so it's more private for him. He has not torn up a pad or even removed it since. It's made by little rascal, and you can even use the artificial grass on it, but I just use the pads. It has a reservoir in the bottom tray to hold urine when using the turf, so when you use it that way, you only have to empty it every day or 2. Gizmo is actually still using it, but more often is holding it till his walks and then he goes outside :-)
Basically he is training for both inside and outside :-)
