High quality proteins from dairy and white fish are much easier on the liver and kidneys than animal proteins. Protein from red meat is especially hard on the liver and over a period of time can cause disease and health issues. In breeds like Yorkies who are prone to liver disease, it is best to limit the amount of beef, venison, etc.

The key is where the protein is coming from. If it is from junk like grains, it is not good. Junebug has been doing well on the Authority Lamb & Rice formula but I do mix it up with some of the many samples I got from Armetis. I do not need to spend tons of money on a grain-free high quality food; not because I am cheap but because JuneBug has been doing well and his stools are perfect.
