Between my 2 pups, we've had 3 of these surgeries. The first few days can be a little rough, but we found that pain was controlled well with a fentanyl patch for the first 3 days. After the initial few days, both of our guys started using their leg pretty quickly. With P-nut, after a few months, you'd never know he had 2 FHO surgeries, it's a m amazing. We usually walk 3 miled per day and that doesn't phase him. Pickles, who is smaller and more delicate than P-Nut, is taking a little longer to recover (we're 8 wks post surgery with him now), so we may try laser therapy at the vet's. Anyway, it does seem to be a fairly common surgery, but in general, the doggies do very well after and their quality of life is much better. Best wishes to you and your pup!
Also, we did P-Nut's 2 surgeries separately, our vet wouldn't do them together. I'm do glad we went that way.
