Could you handle them in your room if they were crated? (We started Caleb out, in a crate, that was secured to a hospital table, that we placed over the bed. That way I could put my fingers in the crate to comfort him, so he didn't feel alone and he could see me. Hospital table could be moved low, so it touches the mattress or higher so I could move my legs)
I think whatever you decided to do, they will get used to in time, did they bring beds with them? If not I'd buy them their own bed and get them used to them during the day first and a good place to go, give them treats ect. Then put the bed(s) in our room at night and slowly move the bed to where you want them to sleep over the next few weeks.

From reading here, I understand foot chewing can be caused by a food allergy or grass allergy. Our black lab would chew his feet, when he stole or was given some human foods. Good luck finding the cause, hope you are able to make your and their lives easier.

So sorry for you loss, thank you for taking these little ones in.
