I had to put my last Yorkie, Gracie down at 6 1/2 years of age about 9 years ago from a severe collapsing trachea. She started with it at about 5 1/2 years old and would have bad episodes of not being able to breathe. AS she approached 6years old she got real bad, her lungs and heart were effected so they kept trying different meds and they would help a little until about 2 months before I had to make the horrible decision to put her down. I had a bronchoscopy done, took her to a specialist and contacted Texas A& M vet clinic. They sent me a research paper they had just done on CT and where Gracie's was collapsed, in the thoracic area, they had not had good outcomes with the surgery. So I decided to let her go, she was so sick and couldn't breathe. I had spent over 4,000.00 on her by then and would have glady had the surgery if it would have helped but it wouldn't. I would see if Texas A & M has any newer studies. You can call them and they are very helpful. If you want to know more please PM me.
Good Luck and my prayers are with you and your parents, I know how difficult it is. Gracie was my sweet baby.
