I think getting a companion is a good idea. I would suggest that if you can afford it to take them to obedience classes cause they need some structure when they are alone and I think the classes help to settle them down. I can't say that two boys are any better than two girls. I had a boy and a girl at first and they got along great, but then again I'm a stay at home mom. My male is 3 months younger but we had him a little over a month before we got the female who was close to 6 months. Two of the same age might not get along as well as one a little older and one a little younger. I do have two siblings by the same parents but not litter mates. The older one did not take very kindly to his brother showing up at first but it's been a little over 2 months now and they get along fine. It was like he was annoyed that a sibling showed up.
