I think the mindsets in certain countries is different when it comes to breeding. Where my parents are from when they were kids if you liked a particular dog for a certain reason(herding ability) and another of the same breed that had great watchdog abilities you bred them. This was done without health screenings. Things have come further along genetics wise since then obviously . My mil is cuban and has that mindset still lol.I do believe it's right to do some research before breeding...you wouldn't want to go in "half cocked" but I don't think youd have to research for 6 years without having had your own litter or having helped raised one. I sure as heck didn't research for 6 years after being married to "breed" with my husband(j/k) Back when this breed was first started I doubt the breeders at the time interfered much with the whelping Their bodies are made to do this...meaning they have all the equipment. If there is an issue that's where your research ( even after 6 years you are still likely to learn new things) and mentor comes into play.
