Teddy had a pretty bad humping tendency (he would seriously try to mount Toki when she was getting a drink of water, squatting to pee, or even if she stopped moving for too long) when we first got him but we got it to stop almost completely after only 3 days. We would just interrupt him by giving him a spritz with the water bottle but mostly by just making a noise to distract him and then redirecting. I do feel that the behavior may have been related to or increased from the anxiety of being in a new home and with another dog. Correcting Teddy's humping was done before we got him neutered (he was 10 months when that got done) so I wouldn't rush to neuter your pup just to address this issue. It certainly can lend itself to awkward situations in front of strangers though! |
