You also need to be very careful w/meat based diets like raw bc if the pH goes too low/ acidic, that can cause calcium oxalate stones. Yorkies are predisposed to have this, along w/struvites. So I think getting a urinalysis during the yearly exam is important (esp of you feed a raw diet), I believe in preventative care/medicine.
oops, there's a chunk of sentence that disappeared...if anything, I think (in my experience) being on a dry kibble diet promotes struvite crystals. Again, for some dogs that are predisposed to getting it, not all. My 2 had it & I learned from my vet & from YT that the diet needs to be liquefied, struvites can be dissolved. So I incorporate canned food & always moisten their kibble for 1 meal. I also make sure they have fresh drinking water & encourage them to drink more. They also get premade raw sometimes.
