Bringing home a new addition to the family is suppose to be a joyous and happy occasion. But when families are dealing with a tiny pup and worrying about just the basic needs of getting a meal into them it takes away from the special time. It just breaks my heart every time I read time and time again when a tiny pup wont eat and is at risk of serious issues if it continues. No one should ever take possession of a puppy unless you know for certain that that puppy is eating dry/hard kibble and drinking on its own. True there is always the possibility of it being a medical issue but sometimes its just poor breeding practices.

As a breeder I realize that there is always a transition period a pup has when the stress of leaving its momma and litter mates can cause the pup to be home sick and they tent to avoid eating for the first 24 hrs or so. But there is absolutely no excuse for a breeder to transfer a pup before they are eating and drinking with absolute consistency and regularity. So many people do not know the risk they are taking when taking a pup before they are able to maintain regular eating habits. There are so many things that can a do go wrong when a new pup is not eating properly. As a breeder it is our responsibility to see to it that when these babies leave our home that they can and will be able to sustain regular eating habits in order to get the proper nutrition that they need to survive. A family with a new puppy should not have to be dealing with these sorts of things, that is the responsibility of the breeder. It is also our responsibility as a breeder to raise and provide families with a Happy, Healthy, Well Socialized puppy.

I make no apologies for my Rant, I just want to stress the importance of making sure that the pup that is being taken home Should and without a doubt be eating a proper diet before leaving the breeder home. So that this type of thing does not happen to any unsuspecting families who are welcoming a new addition to the family. It is just so unsettling reading about all these babies when I know for certain that it can be totally avoided if they had been taken care of properly !
