So the way I started it was I took her outside and just took her to her favorite pee spots over and over again. When she finally squatted down I told her "Go Pee" as she was urinating. I continued this any time she was urinating or defecating, giving the "Go Pee" command as she did it. Cookie caught on pretty well, and soon the "Go Pee" command would get her to start sniffing around for a favorite area, followed by a squat and pee/poop. Critical to this is also giving enormous praise right after your pup does the pee/poop successfully where you want. You really want it to feel good for him to go where you want him to, so treat your yorkie like he just cured cancer when he goes in the right place.

And what a cute boy Toby is! Get ready; potty training is hard work at that age.
Great information! I will need to try this! Chevy doesn't even give the pee pad a second glance, he'd rather go outside. There are some days I don't want to go out earlllyyy in the morning alone and if it's chilly he will just sit there shaking with chills while looking at me with a look like "mommy please let's go back in". But when he wakes up he goes straight to the front door like that's where he wants to do his business.
