Want to share a little more so that the tests don't seem as scary. They are pretty easy:

Fluorescein stain test:
The doctor puts a little green dye in the eye to check for scratches or ulcers in the outer clear layer of the eye that are not visible without the dye

Dry eye test:
The doctor puts something in the eye and then measures the tear production

Eye pressure test:
The doctor uses a device to test pressure of the eyeball

The doctor will also use magnifying glasses to exam the eye and lid to detect any tiny foreign objects, hairs, or problems.

Optimus Prime could have something as simple as allergies, but even some allergies require special eye medicine. The rubbing from itchiness and irritation could lead to other problems -- which is part of what happened to Max.
