I forgot to thank your husband for his service and thank you for taking care of him so that he can protect our country.
Also, I don't know how old he is but, is ok with kids? I only ask b/c you mentioned kids... I've seen families that had to re-home pets b/c the pet had a hard time when the baby came along. Not that I think you'd do the same. Just thought if you didn't know, maybe this would be a good time for you see how he handles kids.
