Agreed. An adult Yorkie can handle being left alone that long (though they won't like it!) But a puppy just can't be left alone that long for fear of hypoglycemic episodes, potty training, behavioral issues etc.
I work 12 hour shifts, too. But my 12 hours turns out to be MUCH longer than that when you add in commutes, meetings, stopping or a few groceries on the way home...
