Fractured front leg and complications after FHO :( I was carrying Toby the other evening, and tripped and both of us fell. Toby has fractured his leg at the wrist joint and is in a splint.
He is now 4 and when he was about 9 months old he was diagnosed with Legg Perthes and had a FHO. I thought it had been a very successful operation, though occasionally he will react as thought he is getting pains/spasms towards the back end. It is hard to say if this is the good side or the bad side, and if its muscle pain or to do with the FHO.
While he was getting checked for the fracture I asked the vet to xray the back legs in case he was developing legg perthes in the other leg. The good leg is fine but the vet said there is a lot of calcification/reaction around the site of the FHO, that will cause friction with the pelvis.
Since Toby has been put in the splint (for front right leg), he has been keeping the back right leg (which was the FHO) off the ground too. So he is bunny hopping around on his two left legs.
The vet thinks he will have to go back into the hip and remove the scar tissue, and as much of the calcification as he can.
I am not that keen on that, as he wasnt having major issue with that leg until the splint was put on.
We cant do anything until the front leg is healed and then I suppose its waiting to see how the back leg behaves after this.
Anyone had this type of thing?
