Around here it goes something like this:
Alarm sounds (if set) on designated day. If we are paying attention we usually just ignore for the moment and then forget. Other times no alarm is set.
About 10 days after the due day the thought crosses my mind to give it. If I am internetting or some such important thing (
) I agree in my head to remind myslf later. That goes on for a few days until I realize they are now at risk, so I scare myself into it.
This reminds me they are twelve days late.
