Welcome to Yorkie Talk. I'm sorry your boy was attacked. This is a big training issue. My younger boy was not attacked, but had some bad experiences with other dogs, so this is also an issue I wrestle with.

I agree with Rubymoon's advice for training in a controlled environment. If you know some laid back dogs with humans who know how to work well with dogs, that would be ideal. Don't force your boy into interacting with them. Use really yummy treats to reward him for any positive steps toward just being near another dog and not growling. Start with just being in the vicinity of the other dog and gradually encourage him to move closer. Gradually might mean over many training sessions, not just one day.

If you have access to a good trainer or class that uses positive reinforcement methods, that would be great too.

One of the hardest things to do is to be positive and not telegraph your own nervousness to your dog. They are so smart and will pick up on our anxiety and think there is something to fear.

Avoid dogs you don't know well and that are a risk for another bad experience. I would also be very careful around children. Use the same training method to try to desensitize your dog to them, but keep in mind that children are unpredictable. They move fast and can be loud, which can be scary to a dog. If your dog bites a child, there could be serious consequences. I would limit interactions to children who know how to behave around dogs.
