If the knee pops out, then he has LP - didn't the vet recommend surgery? Why did the vet give Temaril-P, was it for the steroid component and inflammation from the arthritis or ?

You could ask for a pain med to give at night, that would be reasonable. I'm so sorry your kiddo is in pain. If he is a candidate for LP surgery, the surgery should result in lessening that pain some (if the arthritis still progresses, there will likely still be some pain).
