Does anyone else try to avoid silicones and sulfates in their dog's hair care products?
Basically sulfates are harsh and strip the hair, but they're necessary to remove silicones; so if you want to go sulfate free you also have to go silicone free. Silicones can also coat the hair and make it so moisture can't get in. Some silicones are water soluble so they're ok.
Hair can look worse when you first switch because the silicone was masking the problems.
A few of my friends and I switched years ago and have been happy with the changes.
I haven't been using either in Lola's hair and so far it's going really well, her hair is beautiful and doesn't knot/tangle much despite being puppy hair.
I'm still trying to figure my products out. My main problem is she looks greasy a few days after her bath, but that seems to be a very common puppy problem.
I was using pro-sense oatmeal vanilla shampoo, mostly because it was in the cabinet, but I'm switching because I'm not sure if the mild surfactants are sulfates and I was having to use too much of it because it's very watery.

I'm also using my one of my conditioners (inecto pure coconut) on her hair until I find something meant for dogs. I put a little on her when she's wet and leave some of it in and mixed some with water in a spray bottle to use as a detangler.
When she is really badly tangled I use coconut oil. I've only had to do it twice and it worked well.
For her face I'm using top paw puppy shampoo because it's tear free and sulfate free.
I recently bought this shampoo at TJ Maxx, but I haven't tried it yet. It smells nice though.
