When Harry  used to be crated at night, I often used to hear those sounds.
Ann's quite right, sometimes he WAS dreaming....but I was worried about him being thirsty, so would leave a small bowl of water in there....which was often knocked over his bed etc. in the morning.
We got round this by attaching a water bottle to his crate - it didn't take too long for him to learn how to use it (a tiny smear of peanut butter over the drippy-bit helped enormously  )

they sleeps on the bed with us.
I shared my pillow with the westie, he sleeps the upper and me the lower half.
The yorkie sleeps besides me with his own tiny pillow.
So either one makes that noise, i am sure to wake up as both are near my ears.....
