Default infection by eye

When Barney woke up this morning his left eye was nearly swollen shut. It is not red or oozy, but the skin under it is pink, swollen, and hard. I took him to the vet this afternoon. He said he has an infection near his eye, but his eye is actually fine. He prescribed 2 meds, Novox and Baytril. As I was leaving, the assistant said not to be shocked if it bursts open and drains. I asked if she meant that it would drain out of his eye. She said no, his skin will actually come open and the infection will drain out of it. Does this sound odd to any of you? Has anyone ever had a yorkie with an infection on their face? Did it pop open?
