My dog Teddy recently had mucousy eye discharge. I assumed it was allergies. Then he developed an early stye and I took him to an opthalmologist vet and learned that the discharge and thick eye gunk was a case of a special type of dry eye for which Teddy requires daily drops. I would make sure there is no infection or problem before assuming that the food is the culprit.
