This problem appears to be related to the particular formulation of the dog food, i.e. too much of a good thing, vitamin D. This is not a recall due to contamination.

This raises a question that maybe you all can answer. If dogs are not used for testing dog foods, to which many object, then does it make it more likely that problems like this will only be discovered by the adverse effects on actual pets?
