My former foster dog Pearl is a 10 year old Poodle who never lived inside until she was put into rescue. Pearl is staying with me now (I am her official babysitter when her family is on vacation) and her inside habits have improved so much from when she was my foster back in May.
I tell you from my experience with Pearl she followed Sophie Kate around all day (still does) and would learn by example (i.e., Sophie Kate naps, Pearl naps, Sophie Kate drinks water, Pearl drinks water).
Remember be patient, show them that it is okay to explore as long as they are within the boundaries of good inside behavior.
